Kitchen Italia..... first restaurant in Westfield.... new restaurant in Covent Garden.... how interesting can it be? Well actually it's a really nice place. Taking over from the rather grim Bünker Bier Hall in the bottom corner of Thomas Neal's Arcade they've created a great dining room with canteen tables down the middle and cosy leather booths along the sides where you could easily spend a winter's afternoon munching pizza while listening to the jazz music. There are even a few laptops available by the bar to check on the outside world.
Pasta dishes are £7 to £10, which is a bit high to make it a regular lunch spot and maybe not quite enough for some serious toppings. The Farfalle with Smoked Salmon for £8.95 was fine but if £1 extra would pay for more than the two small slices of salmon in the bottom left corner then it would be a price worth paying. £1.50 more gets you a Tagliatelle loaded with mushrooms at Cafe de Luxe while Jamie's Italian main courses start at £11 and you should try getting inside on a Saturday.Kitchen Italia is run by the same people behind Villandry and two more London restaurants are planned for next year, hopefully they can find some more abandoned Bier Halls like this one.
