Platform Bar launches officially this Friday but the doors are now open and they've done a nice job of converting an old strip joint into a relaxed and traditional bar & restaurant with a subtle railway theme. Upstairs past the not so British Rail glitter-ball hanging from the ceiling, there's an impressive dining room with a high brick arch looming overhead but the more casual and brighter ground floor lounge/dining area feels like the place to be and it's much less secluded than the Davy's wine bars that occupy a couple of similar arches nearby.
The trout and potatoes for £14.50 didn't really need so much butter sauce but it was good in a simple kind of way and the full menu starts on Friday with steaks and chickens sourced from the owner's Devon farm and hopefully at least one healthy dessert.Platform Bar, 56-58 Tooley Street, SE1
