Shoreditch insitution Ruby have taken over the spot left empty in Hoxton Square by the closure of Macondo. It's much bigger than the tiny original on Charlotte Road and a terrace overlooks the gardens opposite but the kitchen is hidden away at the back so there's none of the anticipation of watching the food cooking on the open grill. The menu offers the same mix of sandwiches, pasta, salads and daily specials with the grilled chicken sandwich for £5.50 a bargain. The risotto may need more work though but it is very cheap.Ruby, 8-9 Hoxton Square, N1
