Considering the slightly cheesy Russian origins of Goodman, it's quite surprising to see just how good a job they've made of their new City restaurant. Once past the dark entrance, the softly-lit New York style interior feels cool and authentic, the thoughtful screening gives a big room a cosy atmosphere and for the neighbourhood there's no corporate stuffiness at all. Staff were great, the steak and even the chips were great and the burger looked ridiculous. Once the generous 50% opening discount has passed then it won't be such a bargain but they've got lots of cash in the City and the set lunch options are very reasonable.Goodman, 11 Old Jewry, EC2R
