Pret didn't get where they are today by not paying attention to trends and February's monthly specials see them dipping their toes into Vietnamese baguette and American BBQ waters. Baguettes are kept in the fridge, so not really anything for the many new Vietnamese places to worry about and the BBQ Hot Pork Wrap from the American deep south looked the more interesting, or as interesting Pret wraps get after a morning in the hot shelf. It wasn't bad really, not exactly "chunky" and not especially good value for £4.25 but a hot spicy snack to go with something else and Pret also didn't get where they are today by not giving people something at least decent. These ventures can be viewed negatively but are a good way to broaden horizons and will encourage some to seek out the real deal, which in this case would be found at Pitt Cue.

Pitt Cue started out in a truck under Hungerford Bridge and then traded up to a new home in Soho near Carnaby Street where they have a ground floor bar and a cramped dining room down the narrow winding staircase. The light is much better upstairs and the net curtains that surround the small room are necessary as you don't want tourists watching while you sit at the window counter attacking a plate of ribs.
Take away is available and on the day consisted of a £6.50 sausage bun and a pulled pork bun which was as beautifully presented as a sandwich can get in a polystyrene container. Lovely bread, nice salad on top and the only slight problem was too much pork.It does look impressive in a mad for it meat obsessed stick your head in a bucket of minced beef kind of way but all that meat does overpower everything and so a little trimming of the pork reduces the sandwich to more balanced proportions and then it's quite a treat. Less meat would also make it cheaper, say £5, which would see them heading for Pret's territory.
