Franzè & Evans in Shoreditch used to be an ultra bright Italian deli-cafe where colourful produce sat optimistically on rows of white shelves above white metal tables and chairs but that must have been a little too neat for their neighbourhood and was replaced with a grungy black paint job, chandeliers, canteen tables and the now compulsory wooden bench outside.
The darker mood hasn't been applied to the impressive selection of healthy Mediterranean salads and specials displayed on the counter. Maybe a Soya Bean, Pea, Asiago, Sauteed Onion & Spinach Quiche or a Romano Peppers & Chargrilled Courgette Salad with Parmesan Shavings, Baby Spinach, Rocket & Pesto Dressing?Or perhaps the Miso, Lime & Ginger marinated Salmon with fennel and salad (top) which was lovely for £8 and a pound extra for eat in. As the man on the other side of the table said out loud to himself - "hmmm, nice lunch".
