The long awaited Kyashii restaurant and lounge opened last month in Covent Garden and hiding behind the net curtains is a very cool looking and very yellow sushi bar. The blue fish tanks also look nice and the black chopsticks on white table effect works well. A bento box style set lunch is available for £13.50 and the keenly priced main menu includes a Scottish Salmon Fillet with Teriyaki Sauce for £9.50.Kyashii, 4a Upper St Martin’s Lane, WC2H
Considering the slightly cheesy Russian origins of Goodman, it's quite surprising to see just how good a job they've made of their new City restaurant. Once past the dark entrance, the softly-lit New York style interior feels cool and authentic, the thoughtful screening gives a big room a cosy atmosphere and for the neighbourhood there's no corporate stuffiness at all. Staff were great, the steak and even the chips were great and the burger looked ridiculous. Once the generous 50% opening discount has passed then it won't be such a bargain but they've got lots of cash in the City and the set lunch options are very reasonable.Goodman, 11 Old Jewry, EC2R
If Jamie Oliver were to start an Indian restaurant chain then it would be much like the new Dishoom in Covent Garden and he did just open next door so maybe Jamie does secretly back Dishoom and got good deal on the combined rent but keeps quiet to avoid showing off.Under the skin it's an Indian Wagamama but with help from the design genius of Afroditi Krassa (who styled Itsu) they've created a smart contemporary colonial pizza expressey kind of space that people in suits and students can feel at home in. Details like the nice lights, incense burning in the bathroom and especially the very groovy alcove booths in the basement put it on another level to the usual concept restaurant and even the fake Bombay pictures on the wall look good.
It almost appears too upmarket from the outside but a chicken berry biryani is just £7.80 and healthy grilled fish and butter free naan breads are available for those who don't want to bust their stomach. There was lots of contented murmurs from fellow diners and Dishoom is the clear winner of the new threesome at St Martins Courtyard, although Jamie's was packed next door, as always.Dishoom, 12 Upper St Martin's Lane, WC2H

Their pizza bread was always great but when freed from cheese tyranny the flavour of the sauce and toppings was unleashed and the quantity of ham defied all known laws of pizza physics and economics.A big slice for £3.60 had more ham than some places (like the one on the right from Strada) might use on 6 pizzas which cost £9 each. This may just be a teaser to pull in customers who might buy other pizzas as well but that doesn't distract from the wonder of this slice.
