Queue watch: Broadgate Farmers’ Market
The City Farmers' Market has found a new fortnightly home in the Broadgate Circle by Liverpool Street station after it was forced to move out of Devonshire Square where local food outlets didn't appreciate the loss of business.

It's a tight fit for all the stalls and even tighter for the customers who were patiently queueing up and down stairs and round a few corners for the usual favourites which include the lamb sandwich, seafood paella and anything to do with pig. All this demand for a quality meat feast shows how popular the take away section at Barbecoa could be when it opens in October at One New Change.
Next market is on the 2nd September.

Queue Watch: Gigs
gigs_lrgFish and chips have been sold from Gigs near Goodge Street tube station since 1958 and things hadn't really changed much in that time until an extensive refurbishment recently delivered a smart new look which judging by the queues and full dining room has gone down well with the locals and should last for a few more decades.

Prices haven't gone upmarket though and take away cod & chips costs just £6.40. As with most fish & chips, it looks great but there was a lot more batter than cod and aficionados may be disappointed that there isn't a more Fitzrovia style premium portion available. Maybe Dean Street Townhouse could open a fish and chip shop?gigs_fish

Queue watch: Poncho No 8 is good
poncho_lrgPoncho No 8 opened in Spitalfields six months ago and if we're being honest the burritos weren't really happening initially but gradual improvements and the arrival of a new Mexican chef have resulted in really great burrito and a packed shop at lunch.

There's no more weird soggy peppers or collapsing wraps and most importantly you get a very generous helping of chicken which is much thicker sliced than normal so it doesn't dry out on the grill.
poncho_burritoIt's still not the fastest counter in the world but the £5 chicken fajita is now in the Daddy Donkey league and is well worth the wait outside.

Queue watch: Chilango
chilango_outsideThe queue for Chilango on Fleet Street doesn't look too bad from the outside but considering that it was freezing and that there must have been 30-40 people lining up indoors, it's a long and initially very cold wait for a burrito. Plenty more were arriving, taking one look and deciding to go somewhere else.

The Chilango burrito has got a lot better with a nice thin wrap and they're not trying to fool anyone by overloading it with rice. It was well balanced with plenty of chicken, a good medium sauce and obviously well priced at £5.40.
chilango_burritoChilango still only have two London shops and so logically the next place to go was Sheffield where they recently opened a new restaurant in the Meadowhall Centre and spread the word about the burrito.
